Red Sox Pitcher of the Year PDF Print E-mail

The Boston Chapter of Baseball Writers Association of America gives the Red Sox Pitcher of the Year award to the season's outstanding pitcher. Until 1953, the award was a Boston Pitcher of the Year award, with winners coming from both the Boston Red Sox and Boston Braves baseball clubs. Winners of the award marked * are members of the Boston Braves.

In 1938, the award went to Cincinnati Reds pitcher Johnny Vander Meer for his back-to-back no-hitters, one of which came against Boston. In 1947, New York Yankees pitcher Spec Shea, a Naugatuck, Conn. native, was honored; in 1959, Milwaukee (formerly Boston) Braves pitcher Warren Spahn was named Pitcher of the Year.
