Pavano wins Ben Mondor Award PDF Print E-mail
Members of the Boston Chapter, BBWAA announced that its annual award for New England Player of the Year has been renamed the Ben Mondor Award in honor of the late owner of the Pawtucket Red Sox. It will continue to be awarded to the top Major Leaguer from New England. The winner of the 2010 Ben Mondor Award is Minnesota Twins pitcher Carl Pavano.
 
Washington, Sabean honored PDF Print E-mail
Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers and Brian Sabean of the San Francisco Giants are the 2010 Manager of the Year and Executive of the Year as named by the Boston Chapter of the BBWAA. 
 
Washington, in his fourth season as Rangers manager, led Texas to the franchise's first World Series appearance in its 49-year history. Sabean, a New Hampshire native, put together the team that captured the Giants' first world championship since 1954. He was also named Executive of the Year in 1997.
 
Washington and Sabean will be honored at the the 72nd annual Boston Baseball Writers Dinner presented by New Balance, and in partnership with The Sports Museum, on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at The Westin Copley Place Hotel in Boston. Hamilton wins Ted Williams Award PDF Print E-mail
Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton is the winner of the Ted Williams Award as baseball's top hitter for the second time in three seasons.

The award, voted on by the Boston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, has been presented since 2003. Hamilton and Alex Rodriguez are the only two-time winners. For the 2010 season, Hamilton hit .359 with 32 home runs and 100 RBIs.

Lester, Buchholz named Pitcher of the Year co-winners PDF Print E-mail
The Boston chapter of the BBWAA has voted left-hander Jon Lester and right-hander Clay Buchholz co-winners of the Red Sox Pitcher of the Year Award in 2010.

It marks the first time since 1973 that there have been co-winners of the Pitcher of the Year award. That year, it was also a lefty-righty-combination: Bill Lee and Luis Tiant.

Both Lester and Buchholz finished 10 games over .500 en route to setting career highs in wins.

Lester (19-9) had the second most wins by an American League pitcher behind C.C. Sabathia (21-7). Buchholz (17-7) had an earned run average of 2.33 which trailed only Felix Hernandez of Seattle, who finished the season with a 2.27 ERA.

Kalish garners Rookie award PDF Print E-mail
Outfielder Ryan Kalish, who had 24 RBIs and 10 stolen bases in just 53 games, is the 2010 winner of the Harry Agganis Award as Red Sox Rookie of the Year.
 
The voting was done by the Boston chapter of the BBWAA.
 
Kalish, 22, batted .252 and hit four home runs, two of them grand slams. He began the season at Double-A Portland, then was promoted to Triple-A Pawtucket on June 1. On July 31, Kalish was called up to Boston and remained in the Majors for the rest of the season.
 
Kalish, who was taken by the Red Sox in the ninth round of the 2006 draft, joins teammates Daniel Bard, Jacoby Ellsbury, Dustin Pedroia, Jonathan Papelbon and Jason Varitek as Agganis Award winners.
