Farrell, Merloni to be honored by Boston BBWAA PDF Print E-mail
The Boston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America has selected Red Sox pitching coach John Farrell as the 2009 winner of the Tommy McCarthy Memorial Good Guy Award. In addition, the Boston BBWAA named former Red Sox infielder and current broadcaster Lou Merloni as the recipient of this year’s Former Boston Red Sox Award.

Farrell and Merloni will receive their awards at the 71st Boston BBWAA Awards Dinner, which will be held on Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in South Boston. Tickets are still available for the dinner.

Presented in honor of former Fenway Park press box steward Tommy McCarthy, the Good Guy Award is given to an individual — player, coach or executive — who consistently and professionally handles the media obligations of being a Boston Red Sox, and serves as an example for teammates and others to follow.

The Former Boston Red Sox Award was originated by the Boston Chapter to honor both former Red Sox and Boston Braves players.

Tickets can be purchased by making checks payable to Boston Chapter BBWAA and mailing to: Boston Chapter BBWAA, P.O. Box 7346, Nashua, NH, 03060. Price per ticket is $150.00. Proceeds from the event will help the Chapter to continue supporting charitable causes.
